Mikročip je drobna kapsula, dolga približno en centimeter. Omogoča identifikacijo živali, saj vsebuje unikatno identifikacijsko številko in je torej neke vrste pasji ali mačji EMŠO. Vstavi se ga pod kožo, zato ga žival ne more izgubiti, kot lahko npr. izgubi značko. V telesu se ne premika, saj ga rahlo preraste vezivno tkivo in ga tako zasidra na mestu vnosa. Narejen je iz inertnega materiala, zato ga telo živali sprejme in je ne moti. Številke, zapisane na mikročipu so unikatne in se ne podvajajo. Torej je taka identifikacija enolična in med drugim omogoča povezavo izgubljene živali z lastnikom, zato vam najditelj lažje vrne izgubljeno žival v primeru, ko je le-ta mikročipirana. Podatke iz mikročipa najdene živali lahko odčitamo s posebnim čitalcem, lastništvo pa nato s pomočjo računalnika preverimo v bazi podatkov. Postopek mikročipiranja je hiter in za večino živali neboleč (podoben je cepljenju).
Vstavimo ga v kožno gubo
Pri psih ga veterinar vstavi v kožno gubo na levi strani vratu. Pri mačkah pa v kožno gubo na področju med lopaticama. Vnesemo ga s pomočjo sterilne injekcije s podkožno iglo. Igla je zelo ostra, zato takoj predre kožo - žival praktično ne čuti bolečine, ranica pa se hitro zaceli. Celoten postopek je precej podoben cepljenju in traja zgolj nekaj sekund. Pri živalih z zelo tanko kožo je čip mogoče čutiti.
Mikročipiranje je za pse obvezno
Mikročipiranje je obvezno za pse, ki so rojeni po 1. januarju 2003. Nadomestilo je namreč značke. Za potovanje v tujino pa je obvezno za vse pse, mačke in bele dihurje.
Enkrat za vselej
Mikročip se vstavi enkrat in ostane v psu/mački za vse življenje. Nekatere študije kažejo, da je njegova življenjska doba daljša od 25 let. Če želite svojo žival mikročipirati, ga peljite k svojemu veterinarju, ki bo poseg tudi opravil.

Pomoje se tega ne bi smelo delat … boge živali to ko da bi dali mikročip nam.

Sliši se zanimivo in verjamem, da mogoče živali nič ne boli in nič ne opazijo. Vseeno se mi zdi nekako moralno sporno in lahko samo čakamo, da bo postalo obvezno še za vse dojenčke po letu 20xx.

Meni se pa zdi mikročip zelo vredu! Saj tko dosežemo, da lastnik lahko hitreje najde čipirano izgubljeno žival, saj čip preverjajo na vsaki veterinarski postaji in v vsakem zavetišču za živali.
Kar se tiče pa bolečin ob dajanju čipa, jih pa sploh ni oz. če že kakšen kuža zajoka, ko mu dajo čip, je to po mojem mnenju zgolj iz strahu. Drugače so pa igle za čip zelo ostre in živali naj ne bi zabolelo ob mikročipiranju.

Jaz bi samo omenila, da do sedaj se je v Centralni register psov vpisovalo samo pse, zdaj pa lahko na željo lastnika veterinar vpiše v pasji register tudi št. čipov mačk, dihurjev in drugih domačih živali. Mačke so do zdaj že čipirali, če so prestopale mejo oz. šle na razstavo, vendar jih niso zapisovali v noben skupni register, sedaj pa je to možno. Js sem slišal, da je okrog 100 Eurov tako čipanje.

Cena je na vsaki kliniki malo drugačna, zato je treba za to informacijo vprašati veterinarja, ki bo čipiral vašo žival. Sama sem dala svoji dve mački čipirati že pred časom, ko sta bili sterilizirani, tako da se ne spomnim natančne cene (mislim, da sem dala okoli 20 evrov).

Ni smiselno debatirat o tem ali je potrebno ali ne. Dejansko tako je in raje vidim, da je čip nekje vstavljen kot pa verižica in obesek, ki pda samo moti.
Naš nemški ovčar je čipiran in do sedaj še nismo videli, da bi ga to kaj motilo.
