Poseg je mogoč pri obeh spolih. Pri kastraciji samčku odstranimo testise, pri samički pa najprej naredimo okoli 2 cm dolg rez na trebuhu ter nato skozenj odstranimo jajčnike. Pri obeh posegih je žival v splošni anesteziji. Obnašanje se samčku po kastraciji ne spremeni (če je bil npr. pred njo agresiven, bo tak tudi ostal).
V primeru, da je edini namen kastracije/sterilizacije ta, da samček in samička, ki živita skupaj, nimata mladičkov, svetujem kastracijo, saj je poseg enostavnejši. Čeprav je potrebno povedati, da je kastracija pri morskem prašičku zahtevnejša od kastracije mačke oz. psa. Pujsek je namreč precej manjši in zato občutljivejši na anestezijo. Ima pa tudi drugačno anatomsko zgradbo - odprt ingvinalni kanal, kar pomeni, da moda lahko prehajajo med trebušno votlino in modnikom.

Kunci so rastlinojede živali, zato jim najbolj ustreza hrana, ki vsebuje vlakna in veliko beljakovin ter topnih ogljikovih hidratov. Za osnovno hrano priporočam (travno) seno in zelenjavo, brikete pa kot dodatek. Vse ostalo naj bo zgolj posladek (sem spadajo tudi jabolka, nikakor pa ne sladkarije). Primerna zelenjava je: korenje, zelje, ohrovt, peteršilj, brokoli in endivija. Pri uvajanju novih vrst zelenjave se lahko pojavi driska, zato to počnite postopoma (eno vrsto naenkrat). Na ta način boste namreč lahko izločili tisto, ki mu ne odgovarja. Enkrat tedensko mu ponudite suh kruh, poleti pa tudi zeleno travo.

Odločila sem se postaviti blog o malih živalih. Namenjen je tako lastnikom kot tudi ljubiteljem malih živalih. V grobem je sestavljen iz treh delov. Prvi del se nanaša na prispevke o psih, mačkah in ostalih malih živalih (glodavci, ptiči, plazilci in eksotične živali). Tu bom objavljala splošne teme, ki se nanašajo na posamezne sklope.
Veterinarski nasveti so zastavljeni v stilu odgovorov in vprašanj. V njih boste lahko prebrali odgovore na nekatera vprašanja, ki mi jih lastniki malih ljubljenčkov zastavljajo preko svetovalnice Veterinarske postaje Ljubljana ali po elektronski pošti. Potrudila se bom, da boste s prebiranjem vsebine razširili znanje o svojih ljubljenčkih. Prav tako upam, da boste v tej rubriki našli tudi odgovor na kakšno izmed vprašanj, ki vas muči.
Med Vsakdanjimi stvarmi pa bom včasih objavila tudi kakšno prigodo iz svojega poklicnega ali zasebnega življenja.
