Piometra je gnojno vnetje maternice. Lahko gre za odprto ali zaprto obliko bolezni. Pri odprti obliki bolezni se vsebina skozi nožnico izceja iz matenice, pri zaprti obliki bolezni pa vsebina ostaja v maternici za zaprtim materničnim vratom - cerviksom.
Infekcija je lahko tako močna, da je ogroženo življenje živali. V tem primeru mora psica na nujno operacijo, saj obstaja možnost pogina zaradi sepse - t.j. okužbe krvi z bakterijami. Ta je bolj verjetna pri zaprti obliki piometre, ker se vsebina iz maternice ne more izločati. Piometra je nevarna tudi zato, ker lahko privede do poškodbe in odpovedi ledvic, ki jo povzroči dehidracija ali glomerularna bolezen kot posledica bakterijske infekcije ali endotoksinov.
Ker je piometra infekcija maternice, spadajo v rizično skupino vse nesterilizirane psice. Običajno se pojavi v roku 8 tednov po zadnji gonitvi zaradi povišanih vrednosti progesterona. Pogosteje se pojavlja pri psicah, ki niso imele legla ali so imele zelo malo legel.

Vprašanje: Moja psička pasme husky je stara 3 leta in ima že daljše obdobje drisko. Prejšnji lastniki so mi svetovali, naj ji dajem samo kuhan riž, pa ni nič bolje. Zadnja dva tedna ima celo krvavo drisko. Obnašanje se ni nič spremenilo. Še vedno je zelo živahna in ne deluje bolno. Zelo lepo bi prosil za nasvet.
Odgovor: Ker driska traja dlje časa, pravimo, da gre za kronično drisko. Izvor je lahko bodisi v tankem bodisi v debelem črevesju.
1.) Najpogostejši vzroki povezani s tankim črevesom so:
1.1) Primarni vzrok v tankem črevesu:
- vnetna bolezen črevesa
- limfangiektazija
- novotvorba
- infekcija (bakterije ali glive)
- paraziti (gliste, protozoji npr. Giardia)
- delna obstrukcija (npr. tujek, ujetje črevesja ali novotvorba)
- sindrom kratkega črevesja
- želodčno črevesni čiri

Izgubljena muca Pika
V torek, 27.5 2008 se je v Mostah pri Komendi izgubila leto dni stara muca Pika. Je bele barve, po hrbtu in glavi pa je temno progasta. Muca je prijazna, lastniki pa si zelo želijo, da bi se vrnila domov. Če jo kdo vidi, je lepo naprošen, da pokliče lastnico Ajdo na tel: 041 666 758.
Izgubljena psička Megi
Na Vrhniki se je v četrtek, 26.5. popoldan igubila psička po imenu Megi. Je mešanka kokeršpanjelka, stara je 9 ket, rjave barve. Ima rdečo ovratnico in na njej značko s telefonsko številko in dodaten obesek. Se zelo težko pusti ujeti, vendar ne grize. Po zadnjih informacijah naj bi malo šepala, lahko pa da je bila zgolj utrujena in je težko hodila. Izgubljena skobčevka Kiko
Od sobote, 31.5. je pogrešana mala modra skobčevka z imenom Kiko. Kiko je odletel skozi okno 10. nadstropja v naselju Fužine. Papagaj govori. Vsakega, ki bi karkoli vedeli o izgubljenem papagaju, lastniki lepo prosijo, da jih pokliče na telefon 041 373 690.
