Kunci so rastlinojede živali, zato jim najbolj ustreza hrana, ki vsebuje vlakna in veliko beljakovin ter topnih ogljikovih hidratov. Za osnovno hrano priporočam (travno) seno in zelenjavo, brikete pa kot dodatek. Vse ostalo naj bo zgolj posladek (sem spadajo tudi jabolka, nikakor pa ne sladkarije). Primerna zelenjava je: korenje, zelje, ohrovt, peteršilj, brokoli in endivija. Pri uvajanju novih vrst zelenjave se lahko pojavi driska, zato to počnite postopoma (eno vrsto naenkrat). Na ta način boste namreč lahko izločili tisto, ki mu ne odgovarja. Enkrat tedensko mu ponudite suh kruh, poleti pa tudi zeleno travo.
Vodilo za prehrano odraslega kunca (1-5 let) je:
- neomejena količina sena
- 1/4 do 1/2 0,2 L skodelice briketov na 2,7 kg telesne teže na dan (usklajeno s količino zelenjave - če kunec je manj briketov naj dobi več zelenjave)
- minimalno dve 0,2 L skodelici narezane zelenjave na 2,7 kg telesne teže na dan
- dnevni odmerek sadja: ne več kot 2 jušni žlici na 2,7 kg telesne teže.
Pri briketih se je najbolje držati rekla “manj je več”, saj s preveliko količino briketov kunec hitro zasiti svoje energetske potrebe, zato ne čuti potrebe, da bi žvečil seno. Kadar kunci jedo manj briketov, jim povečamo količino zelenjave. Seno oz. vlaknina je v prehrani nujna. V črevesju ima čistilno vlogo, saj odstranjuje dlake in preprečuje blokade, s stalnim žvečenjem pa kunec zadostno obrablja svoje zobke. Pri premajhnem vnosu sena lahko pride do težav kot so klobčiči dlake v črevesju in predolgi zobje.
Debelost povzroči zdravstvene težave
Pazite, da kunec ne bo postal predebel, kar se lahko hitro zgodi, če jé samo ali predvsem brikete. Debelost s seboj prinese zdravstvene težave. Kunci namreč pojedo (mehki) del svojih iztrebkov – to so izločki slepega črevesa oz. cekotrofi, kjer nastanejo s pomočjo simbiotskih bakterij in zato vsebujejo visoko koncentracijo beljakovin in vitamina B. Ker debel kunec ne doseže zadnjega dela svojega telesa, teh iztrebkov ne more jesti, zato je prehransko prikrajšan. Pojavi se tudi sindrom “sticky bottom” – lepljivi zadek. Mehki del iztrebkov se mu namreč prilepi nanj.

[...] Glede prehrane: Ves čas naj ima na voljo travno seno, briketov pa naj bo čim manj (lahko tudi nič), saj so zelo kalorični in vsebujejo premalo vlaknin (oz. so le-te predrobno mlete). Grobe vlaknine pa so v prehrani kunca zelo pomembne, saj mu omogočajo aktivno gibanje črevesja, zvečenje pa je opravilo, ki je zanj ne le koristno, temveč tudi potrebno, saj si s tem obrablja zobe (v nasprotnem primeru lahko postanejo predolgi in s tem onemogočijo normalno prehranjevanje). Poleg sena in občasnih briketov mu ponudite še zelenjavo. Samica odstavi mladiče pri približno 6 tednih in kasneje kunec mleka ne potrebuje več! Več o prehrani kuncev. [...]

[...] Odgovor: Sumim, da so prav briketi vzrok težavam. Vašemu kuncu nemudoma umaknite brikete, saj so zanj zaenkrat povsem nepotrebna hrana. Potrebuje grobo prebavljivo in neprebavljivo vlaknino (seno, trava, zelenjava), ki spodbuja gibanje črevesja! Če se črevesje ne giblje, lahko pride do zastoja prebave in zaradi tega do zaprtja, kar se v najslabšem primeru lahko konča s smrtjo. Več o pravilni prehrani kuncev. [...]

Spoštovani!
Sem rejec kuncev že kar nekaj časa in (šele) sedaj se mi je pojavil problem:
Namreč danes zjutraj sem šel krmit in našel poginjenega zajčka. Zajčki so stari cca mesec in pol. Imajo veliko prostora za gibanje. Vsak dan 2x svežo vodo katero ne morejo umazati. Krmim jih s senom in mešanico ječmena in briketov v razmerju 3:1. Od zajke sem jih odstavil pred kakimi 10 dnevi. Pod je rešetkast, tako da iztrebki padajo na tla in zajci ne hodijo po njih
Enostavno mi ni jasno, ali so se naveličali hrane, ali ne bi smel uporabljati briketov…. V vodo sem jim dajal suspenzijo Trisulfona in sicer 5 dni v razmerju 1ml/l in sicer kakih 10 dni nazaj, se pravi z dnevom, ko sem jih dal stran od zajke. Potem sem prenehal.
A naj spet začnem s kuro?
A je dovolj le 1x ali je to potrebno dozirati večkrat?
Po kolikem času je dobro oziroma normalno, da se zajka in mladiči ločijo?

IMAM MAJHNE ZAJCE STARE 14 DNI. NA TA DAN PA SO MI POSTOPOMA POGINILI. PRI DRUGI ZAJKLI PA SO VSI POGINILI ŽE PRI 3 DNEVU.

IMAM SAMO ENO VPRAŠANJe:
kunček je zdrav ko riba ampak suhhh ko okostnjak
moj hišni kunec poje zelo malo hrane ,noče ne briket ,poje malo regrada in trave,za jabolka se niti zmeni ne, nima teka. vsakdann pa je tudi spuščen po travi ki jo niti povoha ne kar drugi kunci delajo in jo tudi jedo. travno mešanico hodim iskat na travnik daleč proč od cest,… sena ki ga ima iz domače kmetije tudi ne poje veliko tudi če 1 dan ne dobi nič za jest ..
