Vprašanje: Okoli naše hiše se zadržuje potepuški muc, ki ga občasno hranimo. Včeraj sem opazila, da je zelo glasno dihal skozi nos, skoraj tako glasno kot človek pri prehladu. Danes sem opazila, da ima solzne oči in mu iz nosa čez brke visi sluz. Sicer je ta muc že po naravi miren, vendar se mi sedaj zdi še bolj. Na vsak način je želel v stanovanje, čeprav je vse svoje življenje preživel zunaj. Zdaj me zelo skrbi, da bolni (potepuški) muc ne bi okužil mojega (domačega) muca. Sicer je moj muc v stanovanju, toda mislim, da bi se vseeno lahko na nek način okužil. Potepuški muc namreč večkrat pride v našo garažo. Res da ga spodim ven, vendar se moj muc vseeno tudi sprehaja po tej garaži (ko je zaprta in v njej ni potepuškega mačka). Skrbi me tudi dejstvo, da je v naši vasi veliko mačk, ki so brez lastnika. Zadržujejo se skupaj, in bojim se, da bi prišlo do epidemije med njimi. Kaj bi lahko bilo s potepuškim mucom narobe? Mogoče mačji prehlad? Kako se drugi muci nalezejo od bolnega? Ali se lahko sami pozdravijo, saj je preprosto nemogoče, da bi jaz vse te mačke vozila na zdravljenje.
Odgovor: Vnetje očesnih veznic in izcedek iz nosa običajno kažeta na mačji prehlad (rinotraheitis). Miren je po vsej verjetnosti postal zato, ker se ne počuti dobro (mogoče celo ne jé). V primeru, da gre za mačji prehlad in ima muc močan izcedek iz nosa, je v obdobju, ko je muc zelo kužen. Zato je povsem možno, da se vaš hišni muc s prehladom okuži, če pride v stik s predmeti (pa tudi hrano, obleko ali rokami), na katere je okužena mačka kihala. Do okužbe lahko pride tudi pri direktnem kontaktu z okuženo mačko. Proti prehladu je mucke mogoče zaščititi s cepljenjem.
Kadar za mačjim prehladom zbolijo lastniški mucki, lastnikom svetujem, da obolele živali raje zadržujejo v stanovanju, ker se tako zmanjša stres in so možnosti za ozdravitev brez komplikacij večje. Ponavadi se bolezen sama pozdravi v roku 7-10 dni. Prognoza je dobra, če ima žival na voljo dovolj tekočine in hrane, da ne oslabi in izločki iz nosa ostanejo tekoči. Za potepuškega muca verjetno napoved ni najboljša, še posebej, ker omenjate, da težko diha.
Če pride do sekundarne bakterijske infekcije, se bolezen podaljša, pride do vnetja žrela ali sapnika, lahko se razvije celo pljučnica, lahko pa bolezen preide tudi v kronično vnetje sinusov, kjer mačke kihajo in smrkajo vse življenje. V primeru sekundarnih bakterijskih infekcij je potrebno zdravljenje z antibiotiki.
Mačke se okužijo druga od druge v aktivni fazi bolezni, ko močno kihajo in se iz smrčka izceja velika količina tekočega izcedka. Bolj občutljivi za bolezen so mladički. V večjih skupinah se mačke z boleznijo okužijo in nato pridobijo odpornost ter ne obolevajo več. Nekatere mačke okužbe nikoli ne prebolijo, vendar ne kažejo znakov bolezni. Vendar se v teh mačkah virus še vedno nahaja in ga zato tudi razširjajo (t.i. latentni prenašalci).
Svetujem, da potepuškega muca ujamete in ga peljete v zavetišče za zapuščene živali. Tam imajo tudi veterinarja, ki ga bo pregledal in zanj ustrezno poskrbel, pri čemer vi ne boste imeli stroškov (razen, kolikor boste porabili za gorivo, do zavetišča, ki je pristojno za vaše področje). Poleg tega se bodo v zavetišču potrudili in mucu poiskali lastnika, ki mu bo nudil topel dom in ljubezen. Tudi živali namreč ne marajo biti zapuščene, pozabljene in odvisne od usmiljenja okoliških prebivalcev.

mene pa zanima kaj bi lahko bil vzrok, da mačka po trebuhu izgublja dlako- ni pretirano fejst,ima pa redko, tako da se ji koža vidi - moja muca rada leži na radjatorju, samo močno dvomim da bi bil razlog pretirana toplota?
